Is WavWiz really free?
Yes. WavWiz is free and open source under the MIT license. There's nothing to buy and no subscription. The source code is on GitHub.
What do I need to run it?
The server runs on Windows only for now. Install it on a PC that stays on, ideally the one that holds your music library. Other devices just need a web browser on the same network.
Do phones need an app?
No. Phones join from the browser. Open the WavWiz address, and you can listen, control playback and add to the shared queue. Nothing to install.
Why does Windows show a SmartScreen warning?
WavWiz is an unsigned beta, so Windows SmartScreen may warn that the app is unrecognized. If you downloaded it from the official GitHub releases page, click More info and then Run anyway. Only download WavWiz from the official repository.
Can I listen when I'm away from home?
Yes, privately. WavWiz supports remote access over Tailscale, so you can reach your library from your own devices without exposing your PC to the open internet.
Can I play to WavWiz from my iPhone, iPad or Mac?
Yes. AirPlay is built in. Your server shows up as the AirPlay speaker WavWiz – Whole House. Pick it from any app (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, podcasts and more) and the audio plays in every room in sync, with the title and artwork on Now Playing.
Does WavWiz work with Spotify?
Yes, two ways. From an iPhone, iPad or Mac you can AirPlay from the Spotify app. WavWiz also offers Spotify Connect as an optional add-on: it's off by default, you turn it on in Admin settings, and then WavWiz appears in Spotify's device list and streams directly to every room. Spotify Connect requires your own Spotify Premium account.
It's a beta. What does that mean?
You're on version 0.1.2. Features ship and get polished quickly. If something feels off, open a note on GitHub Issues—bug reports and ideas are welcome.
